5 minutes with….Los Suruba
The Spanish duo of Los Suruba have gone from strength to strength on the back of their ANTS residency and with a slew of new tracks coming out from the pair and on their own label’s the future is looking very bright for Los Suruba. EQTV caught up with the guys to chat about what they have up their sleeve for Plus Minus and for 2016….
2015 was another amazing year for you guys, what was the highlight above all else?
It was probably our best year to date, especially in Ibiza. It was our 3rd year being residents at Ants, which of course is for us one of the best parties in Ibiza and also with our 9 dates at Space (including the Space Opening Party), our Reverse residency at Sankeys Ibiza and our sets playing at the opening and closing parties of Ushuaia. We also completed our 3rd South American tour with great success – especially in Argentina, which is for us one of our favourite countries in the world to play. Also, we played in one of the best parties we have ever been to and at what was for us the best set time possible (after The Martinez Brothers at 2pm), at the El Row party during Sonar week. The attendance was the record for the party in it´s 6 year history. Festival wise we played at Creamfields UK and Ibiza, Extrema Outdoor in Holland and Belgium and again at the Medusa Festival in Valencia. All were amazing.
We were also nominated as “Best Breakthrough DJ” at the Ibiza DJ Awards and nominated as “Best Artist” and “Best Tech House artist” at the Vicious Music Awards in Spain.
How do you feel you can top this?
Working harder and continuing to enjoy what we love, – Surubing 
You have featured heavily in Ibiza over the last few seasons, how have you seen things shift within the venues and artists?
Ibiza is forever changing – in some ways for the better and in some ways not so – but for us its still the best place in the world to be – both to work and to live.
Will you be returning to your ANTS residency this year?
Of course! As we said, we are super proud to be part of the Colony we have been residents and have been taking part from the beginning.
What have you got coming up in the first half of the year with touring? Any new destinations for the passport coming up?
We started the year with 2 of the best parties of the year in Spain, playing at both El Row in Barcelona in the morning with Loco Dice, Art Department and Eats Everything and then at El Row in Fabrik in Madrid in the afternoon playing before Marco Carola and Paco Osuna. After 2 weeks of studio time we will be playing in one of our most anticipated gigs – the official Marcelo Burlon / County of Milan Fashion show party, presenting his new Male Winter 2016 collection in Milán. We are also County of Milan ambassadors so we are super happy to play there.
When you are behind the decks together how do you work your sets? Do you go tune for tune or more?
Its always different but we never play a tune for tune session, we always select and try the new music together and we decide a selection of things we like.
Our actual DJ set is with 2 laptops, 2 soundcards, 3 CDJs and a D2 controller, so normally Delmar uses the computer more with the CDJs and me (Alvaro) plays more with the D2 to combine the tracks with loops and fx.
Is this similar to how you work in the studio?
We always work together in the studio, sometimes one is looking for new sounds, sometimes the other is arranging the track, you know? Sometimes Delmar finds a new bassline or a loop and then we start the track or I find a new sound and idea for the new track. It just depends. Its different each time and we just go with the flow.
What do you have coming up on your various Suruba labels and releases in general?
Actually we are really happy with the forthcoming releases on our labels Suruba and Suruba X. We have tracks from artists like Gorge, Joeski, Metodi Histrov, Siopis, Hugo, Forrest, Dennis Cruz and many more. Now we have started working with our new Label Manager Rossi the workflow is much better.
About our own releases, we have a great track coming on Suara in collaboration with Edu Imbernon with a super serious and elegant Clarian remix! We are so happy that Clarian remixed one of our tracks as we are big fans of his work.
We also have some cool remixes to release on Suruba in the coming months and other surprises …J
You have played in Dubai every year since 2013, what is your impression of the club scene in the U.A.E.?
We love to play there, from the very first time we played in Dubai we have had nothing but positive experiences. We´ve played already 2 times at Blue Marlin which were both amazing one of which was the Opening party of the season 2014 which was super crazy and one of the best gigs of that year for us.
What can we expect from your set at Plus Minus? Will there be a distinctive Spanish sound as you are playing alongside Edu Imbernon?
Edu Imbernon is one of our best friends in the industry – we´ve made around 10 tracks together and we´ve played more than 20 times together over the years – its always special and super funny and we think that the people feel the good vibes also from that J So if you are coming this time, you will enjoy Surubing with Edu and us.
