Record Of The Day…JP Soul – Waiting For All The Right Gear

Artist: JP Soul

Track: Waiting For All The Right Gear

Label: ROAM Recordings

Release: December 16th 2016

San Francisco’s Roam Recordings have been putting out premium dance music for a mighty 15 years, a number to celebrate for any underground music imprint. To celebrate this milestone, the imprint are putting a sizeable compilation, with 13 weighty tracks from a fine selection of artists who have played their part in the label’s success along the way.

Head honcho JP Soul delivers no less than 3 tracks with a recognisable chunk of retro groove, whilst its talented roster of previous contributors that have gone on to international recognition return to ensure those seeking both a dance floor- focused sound, and those after a more chilled, down-tempo aesthetic are left satisfied.

The stand out track of the compilation being JP Soul’s own ‘Waiting For All The Right Gear’, encompassing everything that inspired himself and the label.

Describe the record in five words.

Psychedelic acid with a groove

What is it about the record that will appeal to the fans?

I think the directness of the pulsating bass juxtaposed with the swirling of the analog pads is fun to dance to.

How does it differ from your last release?

My last solo EP was prettier while this one is grittier.

What was the inspiration for this release?

This EP was heavily influenced by the move into my new studio with my studio mates Anthony Mansfield (Disco Nights/Roam Recordings), Corey Black (40 Theieves/Roam Recordings), and Chris Smith (Shiny Objects/Smoke ‘n Mirrors).

If you had the chance to play this in any club, which would it be?

Monarch SF after a Sunset Party at Stafford Lake
