The tracks that defined The Dirty Disco…

IMG_0054

The Dirty Disco started back in 2005 as way of bringing friends together for a little blow out. Un be known that the first party would draft in over 1000 people with Jon Carter at the helm, it would penetrate ideas for the future that none of the promoters (Stu/Foz/Pete) would have ever envisaged.

With Leeds debuts to the likes of Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y and raids that Charles Bronson would have been proud of, the trio went from strength to strength pulling in talent from all across the house and techno roster.

Personal triumph came when the guys invited me to join the team back in 2007 in what would set up my career to date. With a serious amount of detriment owed to the lads for taking me on board, I have invited Foz and Stu to pick out their top ten tracks that shaped the foundations of the historic Leeds club brand ahead of it’s 10th anniversary on the 28th November

The Dirty Disco is at Mint Warehouse in Leeds with a massive lineup with the likes of Paranoid London Live, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Session Victim, Young Marco, Chris Duckenfield, Robert James, Cera Alba, and many more.

The tracks that define The Dirty Disco.

1. Sebo K Horizons
Sebo K was always one of our favourite and Mobilee records caught our attention from the off at Dirty Disco, we invited the likes of Anja Schneider, Pan Pot, Ralf Kollmann to come and play and host a few label parties at Dirty Disco. This was a big tune from 2006, very popular with our crowd and this track had an amazing B-side also, another classic – Moved with Feat Prosumer

2. Petter – Some Polyphony
2. Petter – Some Polyphony
A lot of people will associate this one with Matt Cooper and one of his “end of the night” epic moments. Top tune that had to be on this list, epic techno at it’s best.

3. John Tejada – Sweat On The Walls
Poker Flat was easily one of the stand out labels of this era, so many solid releases, this one was a popular one at DD.

4. Oxia – Domino
We couldn’t leave this one off the list. A huge huge tune, this Kompakt classic was one of the biggest of the whole minimal era and as soon as we heard it we had to book Oxia to come and play for us. He was booked for the night of the famous raid, he knew we had lost loads of money because of it and was kind enough to waive half his fee. A really nice guy who was responsible for one of the best tunes of this time

5. Oliver Huntemann & Stephan Bodzin – Rubin
Bodzin and Huntmann could do no wrong in the mid naughties. Both of them played at Dirty Disco, this was one of those tracks that would totally transform a room. A big tune on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Record.

6. Konrad Black – Medusa Smile (Don’t look back)

Dark, minimal house with amazing vocal, on Wagon Repair ran by Mathew Jonson, Konrad Black, & Loose Change. We used to love Konrad’s productions and he is an amazing DJ. Konrad played on an amazing Dirty Disco lineup alongside Pier Bucci, Patrick Chardronnet, DJ Kentaro and Ladytron.

7. Audion – Mouth to Mouth
When Matthew Dear started producing under Audion there were some special tunes…. Not only was it hard to pick between this and his Audion remix of Hot Chip – No Fit State. We were lucky enough to book Audion to play an amazing New Years day party we did with Mono_cult at The Faversham with Reboot & Ryan Elliot where he blew the roof off!

8. Ame Rej
This one needs no introduction!

9. Nathan Fake – The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix)
Another big end of the night tune played by Matt Cooper. Epic melodic techno

10. Gabriel Ananda – Dopplewhipper
Probably the biggest of them all, this was getting dropped at DC10 a lot when it came out with people sitting down and jumping in the air when it drops. When it first came out almost every DJ playing it at one Dirty Disco and then Joe Morris playing it at Very Very Wrong Indeed while a giant bouncy castle ran out of air deflating on a lot of zombies in Velvet Underground. We found him difficult to tie down to a gig in Leeds but we were made up to add him to our arena line up at the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System in 2008.

Special mentions to a few that didn’t make the cut - Sasse – Soul sounds (Dirt crew solid diamond remix), Fairmont – Gazebo, Oliver Koletzki – Der Mückenschwarm (David K Remix), Marc Houle – Bay of Figs, Argy – Lovedose (Luciano) Mathew Jonson – Decompression, Mathew Jonson – Marionette, M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade – Body Language, Loco Dice – El Gallo Negro, Tomas Andersson – Washing Up (Tiga remix)
